Crawford Co Sheriff's Office

D.A.R.E.

Drug Abuse Resistance Education

The partnership between the Crawford AuSable School District and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office with the D.A.R.E. program began in Crawford County in 1988. Over 4,000 students have taken part in the program since its introduction in 1988. The first students to graduate from D.A.R.E. in Crawford County are now over 30 years old. Many of the current students are the children of those first D.A.R.E. Graduates and are now attending D.A.R.E. classes.

Sergeant Randy Herman has been a D.A.R.E. Instructor since the 1999-2000 school year. Currently Sergeant Herman instructs  D.A.R.E to both Fifth Grade students at Grayling Elementary School and Seventh Grade students at Grayling Middle School.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. Program is funded solely by community donations. In June of each year the “D.A.R.E. Golf Outing” is held. Money from this event is the source of funding for D.A.R.E. materials as well as all other youth oriented programs run through the Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant Herman can be reached at (989)344-3218 or by email at rherman@crawfordsheriff.org
